June is usually when mosquito calls really start picking up around Avondale & The West Valley.
Once temperatures rise and people start spending more time outside in the evening, mosquitoes can quickly become much more noticeable.
This call came from a couple near the side of Surprise who said they could not really enjoy their backyard anymore. They had a patio, covered seating and a nice outdoor area, but they were getting bitten almost every time they sat outside.
The homeowner told me they had noticed it after watering the yard and after a few cloudy days. By the time I arrived, the backyard had become uncomfortable enough that they were avoiding it.
That is always frustrating for homeowners because your yard should be a place where you can relax, not somewhere you feel like you have to rush back inside.

When I inspected the property, it became clear why mosquitoes were hanging around.
There were shaded areas where mosquitoes could rest, small moisture spots near landscaping and a few places where water could sit longer than expected. Even small amounts of standing water can create mosquito pressure.
I also checked the patio plants, drains, pots and shaded spots around the yard. Mosquitoes do not need much to become a problem. A little moisture, shade and protection can be enough.
That is why mosquito control is not just about spraying the yard. It is about finding the small conditions that allow them to keep coming back.

I started by walking the outdoor areas with the homeowner and pointing out the possible mosquito resting and breeding spots.
We looked at the patio area, landscaping, shaded corners, planters, drains and any places where water might collect.
After that, I treated the areas where mosquitoes were most likely resting and travelling. I also gave the homeowner a few simple prevention steps they could keep up with between services.
I always like to explain what I am doing because it helps homeowners understand why mosquitoes are showing up in the first place.
When you know what is attracting them, it becomes easier to keep the pressure down.
Within a few days, the homeowner noticed a real difference.
They told me the evening mosquito activity dropped and the patio felt more comfortable again. That is always good to hear because the goal is not just pest control. The goal is helping people enjoy their home again.
Mosquitoes can come back if the conditions return, especially after watering, storms or changes in the weather. But once you know what to watch for, it becomes much easier to stay ahead of them.

Here are a few things I recommend homeowners check around their yard:
Dump standing water regularly.
Check plant trays, buckets and unused containers.
Keep drains clear.
Trim overgrown plants where mosquitoes may rest.
Avoid overwatering when possible.
Check shaded areas after rain or irrigation.
Keep patios and outdoor sitting areas clean.
These small steps can help reduce mosquito activity between professional services.

Mosquito problems are not always caused by one big issue.
A lot of the time, it is several small conditions working together. A shaded area, a little standing water, dense landscaping or moisture near the patio can all add up.
That is why good mosquito control usually works best when treatment is paired with prevention. The treatment helps reduce activity, but the prevention helps stop the property from becoming comfortable for mosquitoes again.

This job was a good reminder that mosquito prevention really starts with paying attention to the small things around your home.
Most of the time, catching the issue early makes the biggest difference.
If you live in Avondale & The West Valley and notice mosquitoes around your yard, patio or outdoor sitting areas, it is worth taking a closer look before the problem gets worse.
